2-Vehicle Rollover Crash on State Route 55 in Santa Ana
SANTA ANA, Calif. (March 29, 2022) — A Santa Ana rollover crash happened Sunday morning on the 55 Freeway, just north of Edinger Avenue.
Three people were injured in the suspected DUI crash about 2:31 a.m. on March 27th, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Witnesses told authorities the driver of a blue 2009 Toyota Camry was allegedly weaving in and out of traffic lanes prior to crashing into the back of a blue 2007 Toyota Camry. Upon impact, both vehicles overturned with the older vehicle winding up down into a ditch and the other one was on the shoulder of the freeway. The driver of the 2009 Camry became trapped inside. CHP officers freed the man from the vehicle and paramedics transported him to a hospital with minor injuries. That driver is suspected of being under the influence of alcohol.
Meanwhile, two others in the 2007 Toyota Camry survived with minor injuries. They both declined an ambulance at the scene.
Police arrested the driver of the 2009 Toyota on suspicion of DUI, and possibly, other charges.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
