7 Children Injured in Santa Ana School Bus Crash at Daisy Avenue and Willits Street
SANTA ANA, CA (June 28, 2021) – Several children were injured after a school bus crash at Daisy Avenue and Willits Street in Santa Ana.
The Orange County Register and ABC 7 News wrote that the accident occurred on Monday afternoon. Officers reported the wreck at about 1:15 p.m.
The incident began when a Toyota Sienna was going about 40 to 50 mph north on Daisy Avenue in Santa Ana. At the same time, a school bus was traveling west at about 20 mph on Willits Street.
For an unknown reason, the minivan failed to yield for a stop sign at the intersection of Daisy and Willits and struck the school bus. The bus then plowed through a fence and into a yard.
Bus and Car Collide in Santa Ana
The California Highway Patrol said the school bus obtained minimal damage upon impact. The Toyota came to a rest with significant front-end damage.
Firefighters along with the paramedics soon arrived at the scene near Donner Pass Road. They found seven children, ages 9 to 15, who ended up hurt as a result of the collision.
Medical personnel rushed three juveniles to the Children’s Hospital of Orange County for treatment of serious injuries. The other four who sustained unspecified injuries declined transportation.
Meanwhile, CHP added that the man driving the Sienna was hospitalized with moderate injuries. Officials did not disclose the names of wounded parties and their condition at this time.
Officers forced the area of Daisy Avenue and Willits Street to shut down following the wreck. Authorities are still determining the cause of the Santa Ana school bus crash.
