2 Women Seriously Hurt in Santa Barbara Crash at Chapala and Carrillo
SANTA BARBARA (May 25, 2018) – Two were seriously injured after a traffic collision in the area of Chapala and West Carrillo streets Thursday afternoon, according to Noozhawk.
The accident took place shortly before noon.
As per the article, Santa Barbara police said a 91-year-old woman was driving a sedan north on Chapala Street when she allegedly ran a red light at the intersection.

The elderly driver then hit struck another sedan that was headed west on Carrillo Street at the time. The car that was struck spun, knocked over a traffic signal and ended on the sidewalk on the southwest corner of the intersection.
The 30-year-old woman driving the second vehicle extricated from the wreckage. She was taken by ground ambulance to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital with major injuries.
The 91-year-old motorist was also hospitalized with moderate injuries. The names and condition of both parties were not disclosed.
Meanwhile, the elderly woman told the officials that her vehicle had a mechanical failure of its braking system. However, witnesses claimed that she had run another red light prior to impact. The incident is still under investigation.
