2 Dead, 3 Injured in Single Vehicle Crash
SANTA BARBARA (June 27, 2017)- According to the San Luis Obispo Tribune, a deadly accident took place Monday evening at the 2900 block of Gibraltar Road in the hills of Santa Barbara.
The crash involved a single vehicle occupied by five people occurring at around 9:30 p.m.
Per the article, the driver of the vehicle lost control and drifted of the road down an embankment roughly 300 feet below before coming to rest on its roof.
The Santa Barbara Fire Department and paramedics were prompted to the scene where they immediately declared two of the victims in the vehicle dead upon their arrival.
Three others were injured, two moderate and one seriously injured. The victim with more serious injuries was airlifted by emergency helicopter to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital. The other two were taken to unspecified hospital by ground ambulance.
At this time, no identifications have been released of the fatal or injured victims.
California Highway Patrol is currently investigating the crash as this story will be updated as soon as more information is released.
Based on this news report, the driver of the vehicle will be held at fault for causing the collision with only one vehicle being involved. There are still several unanswered questions here. Was the driver under the influence of alcohol or drugs? Did excessive speed or distracted driving play a role? Was the driver negligent in any other way? We trust officials are looking into these and other factors in order to determine precisely what occurred here and why.
In this particular case, the family members of the deceased victims have the right to pursue a wrongful death lawsuit while the injured victims will be entitled to a personal injury claim against the driver seeking compensation for damages including medical expenses, funeral costs, lost future income and loss of love and companionship.
