Motorcyclist Killed in Santa Barbara Crash Near Cota and Salsipuedes Streets
SANTA BARBARA, CA (November 27, 2021) – A DUI crash killed a motorcyclist near Cota and Salsipuedes streets in Santa Barbara.
The Noozhawk News wrote that the fatal accident took place on Saturday afternoon. Officers reported the wreck shortly before 2 p.m.
The incident began when a man was riding a motorcycle south in the 600 block of North Salsipuedes Street, near East Cota Street in Santa Barbara. A Jeep SUV was headed in the same direction.
The Jeep then slammed into the back of the motorcyclist. The rider ended up thrown from the bike about 85 feet and landed on the ground.
Santa Barbara police said the motorcycle careened half a block and collided with a parked Toyota sedan in the 500 block of Salsipuedes. The SUV came to a stop after hitting a parked Dodge Ram truck.
Rider Hit by DUI Driver
Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived and found the man lying unresponsive on the road. He sustained serious injuries as a result of the collision.
Medical personnel pronounced the victim dead at the scene. His name has not been yet released pending notification of next of kin.
Meanwhile, police affirmed that the driver of the Jeep was under the influence of alcohol or drugs when he struck the motorcyclist.
They soon arrested him on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and DUI causing injury or death, both felonies. The Santa Barbara crash is still under investigation.
Officers forced the area of Cota and Salsipuedes streets to shut down for hours following the wreck.
