Highway 101 Motorcycle Accident Santa Barbara
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (May 3, 2018) — A motorcyclist was injured Thursday when he or she was thrown off the bike in a collision with a vehicle on the northbound Highway 101 at Las Positas Road, a California Highway Patrol report said.
The crash was reported to the CHP about 7:51 a.m. The caller told police dispatch that the rider flew off the bike and was laying in the center lane of the freeway. The entire freeway stopped and vehicles were blocking the roadway. The rider and bike were moved to the right shoulder to await firefighters and police.
Paramedics treated the rider at the scene, but it’s unknown whether or not the motorcyclist was taken to hospital.
The bike suffered side damage and its clutch was not working. It was towed from the scene.

It’s unknown at this time whether the motorcyclist or other vehicles were at fault for this collision. Motorcyclists are permitted to split lanes and other motorists are required to only make lane changes when it is safe to do so. Police will piece together the facts and determine who is at fault or whether the drivers will share responsibility.
