1 Killed, 2 Seriously Injured in Santa Clara Crash at San Tomas and El Camino
SANTA CLARA, CA (November 28, 2022) – A DUI crash killed one person and seriously injured two others at San Tomas Expressway and El Camino Real in Santa Clara.
According to The Mercury News and KRON 4 News, the tragic accident took place early Saturday. Officers reported the wreck on November 26 at around 12:20 a.m.
The incident happened when a Volvo was traveling at a high rate of speed west through the intersection of San Tomas Expressway and El Camino Real.
At the same time, a BMW was going north. Santa Clara police said the Volvo ran a red light and then slammed into the BMW.
Speeding Drunk Driver Hits Another Car
The passenger in the BMW, a 31-year-old man, died at the scene. The 32-year-old San Jose woman driving the BMW and the other motorist sustained major injuries as a result of the collision.
Paramedics rushed both patients to the hospital for treatment. The names of the deceased and wounded parties have not been yet released.
Meanwhile, police determined that the speeding driver was under the influence of alcohol when he hit the victims. They soon arrested him for homicide and DUI causing injury.
Officers forced the area of San Tomas and El Camino to shut down for a time following the wreck. The cause of the Santa Clara crash is still under investigation.
