SANTA CLARA: Two Killed in Wrong-Way Driver Crash on Montague Expressway

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (Aug. 27, 2026) — Two drivers died on Wednesday in a Santa Clara crash involving a wrong-way driver on the northbound Montague Expressway at Mission College Boulevard.
According to the Santa Clara Police Department, the head-on collision occurred around noon on August 26th between two vehicles at the Lafayette Street overpass.
Detectives working on the case stated that a driver in a GMC SUV was speeding and traveling in the wrong direction on the expressway when they collided with a northbound silver Honda pickup truck.
Both the GMC SUV and the silver Honda pickup became fully engulfed in flames, police said. The Santa Clara Fire Department responded to extinguish the fire, however, the two men driving the vehicles suffered fatal injuries on scene.
