Four Killed Santa Clarita Accident Interstate 5 Freeway
SANTA CLARITA, Calif. (Nov. 2, 2018) – A fiery crash between a minivan and a big rig truck claimed the lives of four people, including a child on the northbound Golden State (5) Freeway.
The crash took place about 7:30 p.m. on Thursday night near Calgrove Boulevard. Police temporarily closed down two lanes of the freeway to investigate what happened.
The preliminary investigation has revealed that the truck was parked on the right shoulder of the freeway for unknown reasons. The van veered to the right shoulder and crashed into
the rear of big rig and caught on fire.
Four people in the minivan died in the fiery crash, including a child under 10 years old, police said.
The crash also sparked a brush fire next to the freeway.
The Los Angeles County Fire Department responded to the scene, but they were unable to help those in the minivan. The truck driver was not injured in the crash.
Los Angeles Crash Investigation
Police are reviewing the evidence and any witness statements to determine fault. The investigation will consist of looking at measurements of evidence left by the vehicles such as point of impact, final resting positions of the vehicles, skid marks, and gouge marks. It’s unknown why the truck was on the freeway parked, nor what caused the minivan to veer off the roadway. Witnesses or dash camera footage may also help support the police investigation.
We offer our condolences to the families of the people who died in this horrible crash.
