1 Seriously Injured in Santa Cruz County Crash at Highway 129 and Coward Road

SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, CA (June 20, 2021) – A car crash seriously injured at least one person at Highway 129 and Coward Road in Santa Cruz County.

According to the California Highway Patrol dispatch team, the accident occurred on Sunday afternoon. Officers reported the wreck at about 12:14 p.m.

CHP said two vehicles traveling around 50 mph collided head-on for an unknown reason near Watsonville and Interlaken in Santa Cruz County.

The two crashed at the intersection of Highway 129, known as Riverside Drive, and Coward Road.

The incident log described the cars involved as a silver GMC Terrain and possibly a blue Cadillac. Firefighters along with the paramedics soon responded to the scene.

They found one person who ended up lying on the ground as a result of the collision. Medical personnel then took the patient to a hospital for treatment of major injuries.

Officials did not disclose the name of the wounded party and their condition at this time. Meanwhile, CHP forced the area of Highway 129 and Coward Road to shut down following the wreck.

Authorities are still determining the cause of the Santa Cruz County crash.
