Santa Cruz County Fatal Motorcycle Crash Highway 129 Murphy Road

Motorcyclist Killed in Santa Cruz County Crash at Highway 129 and Murphy Road

SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, CA (May 28, 2023) A crash killed a motorcyclist at Highway 129 and Murphy Road in Santa Cruz County.

A California Highway Patrol dispatch said the tragic accident occurred on Sunday evening. Officers reported the wreck on May 28 at about 7:37 p.m.

The incident happened when the motorcycle rider and another vehicle collided for an unknown reason in Santa Cruz County near Interlaken and Watsonville.

The two crashed at the intersection of Highway 129 and Murphy Road.

A witness to the crash told Johnson Attorneys Group that she and her husband were among several good Samaritans including a nurse who stopped to help the injured motorcycle rider. Also, one woman held the victim’s hand while the others attended to his injuries.

The two veterans exited their car and ran to help the injured rider. “He had lost a foot so we tied a tourniquet on him and he was awake and responsive,” she said, adding they called for an ambulance.

The woman was told by arriving paramedics that “we probably saved him, but they moved so slow to leave with him from the accident scene.”

She added that firefighters and paramedics were apparently slow to arrive at the scene and took their time attending to the victim.

Motorcycle and Vehicle Collide

The patient sustained major injuries as a result of the collision. Medical personnel rushed the victim to the Natidivad Medical Center for treatment.

CHP confirmed that the rider soon died. The name of the deceased party has not been yet released pending notification of next of kin.

Meanwhile, the second vehicle involved included two older women and an older male, but the report did not mention if the other driver ended up hurt.

The cause of the fatal Santa Cruz County crash is still under investigation.

Officers forced the area of Highway 129 and Murphy Road to shut down for an hour and a half after the accident.
