Man Hit by Car was Running from CHP Officers
SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, Calif. (Jan. 2, 2018) — A pedestrian was struck and killed on New Year’s Eve in the northbound lanes of Highway 1, according to San Jose Mercury News.
The collision was reported on Monday night, shortly after a man’s car broke down on the side of the roadway. A California Highway Patrol car reportedly stopped to help the man and they were about to do an investigation into whether or not the driver had been drinking. That’s when the the Watsonville man allegedly ran off across southbound lanes and crossed the median onto the northbound freeway. An oncoming Subaru Crosstrek driven by a 46-year-old San Jose woman struck and killed the man.
The freeway was closed down temporarily for an investigation. It’s unknown if the woman in the Subaru was hurt or not.

Police will investigate the cause of this crash and liability.
