SANTA MARIA, California (April 19, 2016) –– A 2-year-old child was hospitalized Monday afternoon after a driver backing out of a driveway struck him or her in the 1000 block of North Lincoln Street, according to a report by the Santa Maria Police Department.
The pedestrian crash took place about 5:10 p.m. when the child and his or her mother were walking on Lincoln Street. The child was rushed to Marian Regional Medical Center to be treated for serious injuries. The child was then airlifted to a second hospital for further treatment, but is expected to survive those injuries.
The Santa Maria Police Department is heading up an investigation into the crash.
