Major Injury Crash on Highway 166 in Santa Maria
SANTA MARIA, Calif. (July 2, 2021) — A Cuyama Highway 166 crash happened Friday morning near Tepusquet Road.
The head-on Highway 166 collision happened in the highway about 8:59 a.m. on July 2nd, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The drivers of a black Cadillac Escalade and a small maroon SUV collided due to unknown circumstances. The crash happened when the black Escalade reportedly veered across the double yellow lines and into the path of the smaller SUV, according to a witness. The location of the crash also has a curve in the roadway. It’s unknown if the black SUV’s driver was attempting to pass another vehicle or not, but police are investigating.
CHP Responds Collision Cuyama Highway 166
Two people were severely injured and airlifted to local trauma centers. One of them is a teenage boy taken to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital.
The second patient went to Marian Regional Medical Center in Santa Maria. A third patient was transported by ambulance to a local hospital.
Meanwhile, the vehicles and emergency responders blocked the eastbound lanes after the crash on Cuyama Highway 166. The report does not mention the age and or gender of the injured.
There is no further information about the collision at this time. However, the CHP is investigating the cause of the crash and liability.
