SANTA MONICA, California (August 26, 2014) – A motorcyclist was killed Tuesday morning in a car accident on the westbound Interstate 10 Santa Monica Freeway near the McClure Tunnel, according to a dispatch by the California Highway Patrol.
About 5:50 a.m., the Santa Monica Fire Department sent firefighters and paramedics to the scene of the crash between a motorcycle rider and a BMW sedan that had blocked all westbound lanes at the McClure Tunnel. A SigAlert was issued about 6:10 a.m. for the crash and traffic was diverted off the freeway at Lincoln Boulevard due to the hard closure of the freeway.
Police are heading up an investigation into the fatal crash to determine liability.
“My condolences go out to the family of this rider as they learn of this tragedy,” said Attorney James Johnson.
