Santa Paula Police Officer Injured in DUI Crash Near Steckel and Estriga
SANTA PAULA, CA (July 5, 2021) – A DUI crash injured a Santa Paula police officer near Steckel Drive and Estriga Court.
According to The Ventura County Star and KVTA News, the accident took place on Sunday night. Officers reported the wreck on July 4 shortly after 11 p.m.
The incident began when the Santa Paula police officer responded to a call of illegal use of fireworks. He was standing outside of his car near the intersection of Steckel Drive and Estriga Court.
Police said a vehicle going north approached and then slammed into the driver’s side door of the patrol unit. The other car veered and then struck the officer.
Man, 40, Arrested For DUI
Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived at the scene and found the police officer hurt as a result of the crash. He sustained unspecified injuries upon impact.
Medical personnel took the wounded patient to a local hospital for treatment. Officials did not disclose his name and condition at this time.
Meanwhile, the California Highway Patrol determined that the driver who caused the wreck had a blood alcohol level greater than the legal limit of 0.08%.
They soon arrested and booked the 40-year-old Santa Paula man into the Ventura County jail on suspicion of felony DUI-related offenses.
Officers forced the area of Steckel Drive and Estriga Court to shut down following the wreck. The Santa Paula DUI crash is still under investigation.
