Driver Arrested for Fatal Pedestrian Accident
OAKLAND, Calif. (July 12, 2023) – Santu Maya was struck and killed June 16th in an Oakland hit-and-run pedestrian accident at Foothill Boulevard and Vicksburg Avenue.
Additionally, police say they have arrested a suspect in the collision who fled the scene without stopping to help the injured woman, according to the Oakland Police Department. The suspect was allegedly engaged in a street race and speeding at the time of the collision, CBS News reports.
The motorist reportedly struck Santu Maya in a marked crosswalk at the intersection, but failed to stop.
Paramedics responded, however, she later died at from those injuries.
The woman was walking with her daughter and 10-year-old granddaughter at the time of the crash.
It is unknown if alcohol and/or drugs were factors in the traffic accident.

The case remains under investigation.
