Saphira Howerton, 2, Hit and Seriously Injured by Car in Santa Rosa
SANTA ROSA (July 17, 2019) – A toddler pedestrian seriously injured after an alleged DUI hit-and-run crash along Range Avenue last week has been identified as Saphira Howerton.
Police said the 2-year-old girl was the victim of the accident which occurred on July 11 at about 2:40 p.m. near the Coddingtown Mall.
According to reports by The Press Democrat and NBC Bay Area, the child and her grandmother were getting into a black Hyundai Tucson when she was struck by a white 1995 GMC full-size van.
The young victim suffered major injuries and was rushed to Children’s Hospital Oakland for treatment. Her current condition was not immediately available but she was expected to survive.
Hector Larios, 47, Arrested For DUI Hit-and-Run
Meanwhile, police affirmed that the driver of the GMC van did not stop after hitting the pedestrian and then fled the scene without rendering aid to the girl.
The vehicle was later found at an apartment complex nearby and the suspect, 47-year-old Hector Cabrales Larios, was arrested on suspicion of felony DUI and felony hit-and-run.
The Santa Rosa man reportedly had three prior misdemeanor DUI convictions and one felony DUI conviction within the past six years. The investigation is ongoing.
A GoFundMe page has been created to help with Saphira Howerton’s existing and future medical expenses.
