CARMEL, Calif. (July 23, 2018) — Sarah Coleman, 69, suffered major injuries in a head-on crash with a suspected drunken teen driver on Carmel Valley Road,
Coleman was hospitalized with serious injuries including broken legs in a crash that also left a 16-year-old girl dead in the other vehicle. Police arrested the 18-year-old driver of the other vehicle on DUI charges.
Annabelle Vandenbroucke, 16, was identified as the Carmel High School student who died after being hospitalized following the crash, according to the Monterey County Sheriff’s coroner. She had been a passenger not wearing a seat belt in 18-year-old Margot McNally’s Nissan Pathfinder. McNally, who was wearing a seat belt and suffered a broke tailbone, was arrested on July 17th for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and speeding.
Police say the Nissan’s driver failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway and went over the double yellow lines and struck Coleman’s GMC Suburban SUV.
