The four siblings were traveling to San Francisco to visit their sick father who was in the hospital.
The California Highway Patrol stated that the SUV became wedged underneath the big-rig.
The driver of the big rig truck was sleeping in the vehicle that was parked illegally on the shoulder. Rogue Transportation LLC out of Oregon owns the truck and he was cited by police.
Police say they do not know what led to the SUV veering off the roadway. They are investigating whether or not alcohol, drugs or speed were factors.
