El Cajon Man, 56, Killed in Crash with Helix Water Truck
LAKESIDE, Calif. (February 2, 2022) – Savaii Seau, 56, of El Cajon, died in a head-on crash with a Helix Water District dump truck Tuesday afternoon on Los Coches Road in Lakeside.
The El Cajon man is the older brother of San Diego Chargers and USC legend Junior Seau. Seau worked as a P.E. teacher at Warren-Walker School, a private institution with four campuses located in San Diego Count, according to KTLA News.
CHP officers reported the wreck at about 2:10 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 1, according to The San Diego Union-Tribune and FOX 5 News.
Authorities report Savaii Seau was driving a 2005 Audi A6 northbound on Los Coches Road in Lakeside. At the same time, a driver in a Helix Water District dump truck was traveling southbound.
The Audi reportedly veered into the path of the truck in the southbound lane. The car then slammed head-on into the 2006 International 4400 dump truck.
Two-Vehicle Crash on Los Coches Road
The 56-year-old El Cajon man driving the Audi suffered major injuries and paramedics transported him by ambulance the Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego. Roughly one hour after the collision he died at the hospital. Police mentioned he was not wearing a seatbelt.
Meanwhile, a 42-year-old El Cajon woman riding as a passenger in the Audi and a 60-year-old San Diego man driving the truck both survived with minor to moderate injuries. They were both wearing a seatbelt, police said.
Paramedics transported both patients to hospitals for treatment.
Meanwhile, CHP closed down Los Coches Road for hours following the wreck.
The cause of the fatal Lakeside crash is still under investigation by the CHP.
