 Savaughn Barnes Arrested Fatal San Jacinto Hit-and-run Bicycle Accident  

SAN JACINTO, Calif. (Dec. 6, 2022) —  Savaughn Jojuan Colon Barnes, 21, of Hemet, was arrested on suspicion of a hit-and-run collision at State Street and Dillon Avenue in San Jacinto.

Police arrested the Hemet man after he allegedly fled the scene of a crash that killed a man standing with his bicycle at the intersection.

The collision occurred about 8:21 p.m. crash on Sunday, Dec. 4th, according to the San Jacinto Sheriff’s Station.

Deputies responded to the scene of the major injury hit-and-run collision at the intersection of State Street and Dillon Avenue. They located a man lying in the roadway, but the driver involved was not at the scene, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

Witnesses saw the victim standing in the center median on State Street prior to the collision with his bicycle.

Meanwhile, the Hemet man was driving southbound at a high rate of speed and allegedly struck the victim and the center median.

Also, the Hyundai continued traveling southbound on State Street and failed to stop and help the injured man.

Sadly, the pedestrian with the bicycle died at the scene, police said.

Additionally, a second witness took down the suspect’s license plate which helped authorities locate the suspect and vehicle at a Hemet address.

Police arrested Savaughn Jojuan Colon Barnes in the 1900 block of Acacia Avenue in Hemet. They booked him into the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in Banning with his bail set at $100,000.
