Scooter Rider Dies After Collision with SUV in Fullerton
FULLERTON, Calif. (August 8, 2025) — A man riding a SYM scooter was killed Friday night after colliding with a Volkswagen Taos SUV on West Malvern Avenue in Fullerton, authorities said.
The crash was reported around 8:03 p.m. near West Malvern Avenue and Wesley Drive, according to Fullerton Police Department spokesperson Kristy Wells.
Officers arrived to find the rider in the No. 2 lane of eastbound Malvern Avenue, suffering from “significant, life-threatening” injuries. Police began CPR until Fullerton Fire Department paramedics arrived and took over. The man was rushed to a trauma center, where he was pronounced dead.
Preliminary findings indicate the scooter rider was heading west on Malvern Avenue, passing Wesley Drive, when he struck the driver’s side of the Taos, police said. The impact threw him from the scooter.
The SUV driver stayed at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation. Authorities did not mention if the SUV pulled out in front of the scooter rider from Wesley Drive, which has a stop sign for traffic entering Malvern Avenue. Also, it is not yet known whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.
The victim’s identity will be released by the Orange County Coroner’s Office.
