Scott Bales, 47, ID’d as Suspect in San Jacinto Fatal DUI Crash on Gilman Springs
SAN JACINTO, CA (November 14, 2022) – Authorities detained Scott Bales after a fatal DUI crash on Gilman Springs Road near San Jacinto.
The California Highway Patrol determined that the 47-year-old man was under the influence of alcohol when the collision took place.
The incident began when Scott Bales was driving a Chevrolet Silverado west on Gilman Springs Road near San Jacinto. At the same time, a Honda Insight was going east.
CHP said the Moreno Valley man then crossed over the divided highway and into eastbound lane. In the process, he struck the Honda head-on.
2 Killed in Wreck
The two cars crashed east of Bridge Street. The Press Enterprise and KESQ News wrote that the wreck occurred on November 13 shortly before 9 p.m.
The two occupants of the Insight died at the scene of the accident. The coroner’s office identified them as Daniel Jacks Jr, 45; and Hannah Jacks, 19, both from San Jacinto.
Scott Bales and his passenger, a 45-year-old Moreno Valley man, sustained major injuries as a result of the crash. Paramedics rushed them to the Riverside University Medical Center for treatment.
Meanwhile, CHP soon arrested Scott Bales on suspicion of DUI causing injury. He could be charged with second-degree murder due to his previous DUI convictions.
Officers forced Gilman Springs Road to shut down for a time following the wreck. The DUI crash is still under investigation.
