Passengers Dies in Head-On Collision on Highway 49 Sunday
Nevada County, CA (September 27, 2021) – A 37-year-old man, Scott Maillet, died following a car crash that occurred on Highway 49 on September 26, Sunday.
The KNCO News reported Scott Maillet, an Auburn resident, was a passenger in a Volkswagen traveling north on Highway 49. Preliminary investigation revealed the Volkswagen crashed head-on into a Honda Accord in the area near Rincon Way.
According to the article published online, the 23-year-old man driving the Honda allowed to vehicle to cross over the double yellow lines. The Honda veered into the opposite traffic, leading to the catastrophic incident.

Responding medical personnel found the passenger of the Volkswagen, Scott Maillet, with serious injuries. Paramedics performed life-saving measures to the victim but he sadly succumbed to his injuries and died.
Meanwhile, officials added the driver of the Honda sustained minor injuries as a result of the wreck.
Detectives continue to work at this time to determine why the Honda drifted onto the opposite side of the highway. The precise cause of the deadly car crash on Highway 49 remained under investigation.
