Scott McDonough, 43, ID’d as Suspect in Fountain Valley Fatal DUI Crash

FOUNTAIN VALLEY, CA (November 15, 2022) – Authorities detained Scott McDonough after a DUI crash that killed a bicyclist in Fountain Valley.

Police determined that the 43-year-old man was under the influence of alcohol when the fatal accident took place on Tuesday.

The incident began when Scott McDonough was driving a gray Honda CRV near Los Coches Street and Sunn Avenue in Fountain Valley. At the same time, a bicycle rider was going east on Sunn.

Police said for an unknown reason, Scott McDonough then made a U-turn in the area. In the process, his car slammed into the bicyclist in the intersection.

Phong Khuu, 62, Hit and Killed by Car

The Orange County Register wrote that the collision happened at around 4:30 a.m. Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived and then found the cyclist lying on the road.

The victim, 62-year-old Phong Khuu, died at the scene of the accident. Meanwhile, police added that the driver of the Honda stopped and stayed at the site following the wreck.

Officers soon arrested Scott McDonough on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and DUI causing injury. They booked him into the Orange County Jail in lieu of a $100,000 bail.

The Fountain Valley DUI crash is still under investigation.
