1 Killed, 1 Injured in Scotts Valley Crash on northbound Highway 17

SCOTTS VALLEY, CA (June 5, 2021) – One was killed and another was injured after a car crash on Highway 17 in Scotts Valley.

According to The Mercury News and Santa Cruz Sentinel, the tragic accident occurred late Friday night. Officers reported the wreck at about 10 p.m., north of Mount Herman Road.

The incident happened on June 4 when a Toyota Tacoma was going at a high rate of speed north on Highway 17 in Scotts Valley. At the same time, a Toyota Camry was traveling in front.

Speeding Driver Hits Another Car Near Mount Herman

The California Highway Patrol said the Tacoma then slammed into the rear of the Camry. The Camry spun out of control while the Tacoma rolled over upon impact.

The speeding driver ended up ejected from his car as a result of the collision. Firefighters along with the paramedics responded and pronounced the 28-year-old Santa Cruz man dead at the scene.

The motorist in the Camry, a 22-year-old Oakland man, sustained minor injuries in the wreck. Medical personnel took him to the Santa Clara Valley Medical Center for treatment.

Meanwhile, officials forced the northbound lanes of Highway 17 to shut down for several hours following the crash. The fatal Scotts Valley collision is still under investigation.
