Semi-Truck and Car Crash on Highway 33 (Fresno Coalinga Road)

Major Traffic Collision on State Route 33 Near Coalinga Involves Semi-Truck and White Sedan
COALINGA, Calif., (Sept. 9, 2026) — A semi-truck and a white Acura sedan were in a crash Wednesday on Highway 33 in Coalinga, at Coalinga-Mendota Road, resulting in major injuries.
The incident unfolded around 11:21 a.m. on Sept. 9th at State Route 33, also known as Fresno Coalinga Road, approximately two to three miles west of the I-5 Freeway. Authorities investigating the crash determined the Acura veered into the opposing lane and crashed into the northbound truck pulling two gravel trailers.
The report stated that the semi-truck overturned during the collision, with its trailer and cab coming to rest on their sides. The driver of the semi-truck was reportedly trapped inside the vehicle for some time.
Emergency responders, including Coalinga Fire, arrived on the scene and transported the truck driver to Coalinga Regional Medical Center with minor injuries. Meanwhile, the driver of the Acura was airlifted to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno with major injuries. The white sedan also involved in the crash sustained significant damage.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) initially classified the incident as a major injury collision. Due to the severity of the incident, SR33 was temporarily closed to traffic, with environmental health teams and cleanup crews dispatched to manage the scene. The area remained closed as they awaited necessary permits for environmental safety measures.
The investigation into the cause of the collision is ongoing, and law enforcement officials are urging any witnesses to come forward with information.
