Semi-Truck, Car Crash I-5 Freeway, Lebec School Road, Kern County

LEBEC, Calif. (July 1, 2026) — One person suffered moderate injuries in a collision involving a semi-truck and a Nissan sedan on Wednesday morning on the Interstate 5 Freeway, just south of Lebec School Road in Kern County, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash was reported on July 1st at approximately 7:54 a.m. Initial dispatch information indicated a semi-truck collided with a white passenger vehicle, which came to rest in the No. 2 lane with its hood flipped open. The semi-truck stopped on the right shoulder.
Shortly after the collision, debris, including what was believed to be a tire that may have separated from the semi-truck, was reported in the No. 2 and No. 3 lanes, creating a traffic hazard. Fire crews responded to the scene, where three to four southbound lanes were temporarily blocked as emergency personnel assisted those involved and worked to clear the wreckage.
Authorities requested a tow truck to remove the damaged Nissan Altima from the freeway. Crews later moved the involved vehicles onto the right shoulder, allowing all travel lanes to reopen by approximately 8:31 a.m.
One injured person was transported to Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital with moderate injuries, according to CHP dispatch logs.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation. No additional information about the injured individual has been released.
