Multi-Vehicle Crash on I-405 Freeway Near John Wayne Airport
SANTA ANA, Calif. (April 8, 2022) — A semi-truck crash on the northbound Interstate 405 Freeway on Thursday afternoon led to a multi-vehicle crash near MacArthur Boulevard.
The collision happened about 2:11 p.m. on April 7th, according to the California Highway Patrol.
A large red crane semi-truck reportedly crossed over the center divider from the southbound side of the 405 Freeway to the northbound side and crashed into a wall on the shoulder. There was concrete and debris scattered across the freeway. In the aftermath, a multi-vehicle crash ensued when a white SUV crashed into a red work truck and a sedan. Also, many other vehicles became damaged when they drove over the debris in the roadway.
Paramedics responded to the scene to help those injured in the wreck, but there are no further details.
Police issued a SigAlert for a portion of the freeway and traffic was reduced to a single lane between MacArthur Boulevard in Santa Ana and Jeffrey Road and University Drive in Irvine.
Caltrans crews worked to clean up the debris in the roadway and reopen the freeway.
