Two Killed in Crash on Needles Freeway near Barstow

Barstow, CA (March 11, 2025) – A fatal traffic collision occurred Tuesday morning on westbound Interstate 40 near Ludlow, in Mojave Desert east of Barstow, in San Bernardino County.

Two people died in the crash reported at 6:16 AM on March 11th involving a semi-truck and a Dodge Caravan, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Initial reports indicated that the semi-truck had veered off the roadway, while the SUV had rolled over into the desert area, the report said. There was also smoke coming from the SUV which was partially visible from the roadway.

First Responders Arrive to Collision at Interstate 40 in Ludlow

Paramedics responded after reports that a woman in the semi-truck was unresponsive. There was also no movement or response from two other individuals involved. Later the CHP report confirmed two people died following the collision, but there are no further details at this time. It’s unknown how many survived the crash and were injured.

The situation prompted the request for tow services, including a large rig for the semi-truck.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the fatal collision on the Interstate 40 in Ludlow and clean-up efforts are underway to remove debris from traffic lanes.
