Sergio Avila, 59, Killed After Car Rear-Ends Truck on Roxford Street
DATE OF COLLISION: Saturday, December 22nd
December 23, 2018 – One person was killed, and another was seriously injured in a traffic collision Saturday morning on Rexford Street, according to KTLA News and On Scene TV.
Officials said a white Toyota Corolla crashed, for unknown reasons, into the back of a tractor trailer in the 15814 block of Roxford around 11:30 a.m. The sedan reportedly lodged underneath the rear-end of the truck.
Passenger Killed, Driver Injured in Sylmar Car Crash
Responding emergency teams found two parties, the driver and a solo-passenger, trapped in the wreckage. When the passenger was pulled out, he was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. The fatality was identified as 59-year-old Sergio Miranda Avila, of Sylmar.
Authorities added the driver of the vehicle suffered critical injuries as a result of the crash. The man, who name remained undisclosed, was transported to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Meanwhile, nobody inside the truck was harmed in the accident.
The investigators handling the case continue to work to determine precisely what happened here and why.
