Passenger Dies in Collision Near Padaro Lane Offramp
Carpinteria, CA (March 24, 2022) – Sergio Honorio Sanchez, a 21-year-old man, died following a suspected DUI car crash that occurred on Highway 101.
The Noozhawk News published an article online reporting Sanchez, of Oxnard, was a passenger in a Nissan sedan traveling in the streets of Carpinteria. When the vehicle approached the area near Padaro Lane offramp, the Nissan collided with a semi truck in the southbound side of SR-101.
The crash took place on March 18, Friday, at about 2:15 a.m.
Preliminary investigation revealed the Nissan was traveling in the left lane of the highway. Due to the alleged intoxication of the driver, the Nissan slammed into the back of an asphalt dump truck. The force from the impact caused the car to veer into the right shoulder of the freeway. Officials said the car drifted off the roadway and crashed into two trees.
When rescue teams arrived at the location, they found the passenger unconscious. Paramedics performed life-saving measures to the victim but he sadly succumbed to his injuries and died. On Thursday, authorities released the name of the fatal victim as Sergio Honorio Sanchez.
Jonathan Montoya Arrested in Carpinteria Fatal DUI Crash
Meanwhile, investigators determined the Nissan driver–21-year-old Jonathan Jair Montoya, was intoxicated at the time of the collision. Police arrested the suspect on gross vehicular manslaughter; driving under the influence causing injury; and driving with a blood-alcohol content of 0.08% or more.
Further investigation on the case is ongoing.
