1 Dead, 5 Injured in Crash on Highway 152 in Chowchilla
CHOWCHILLA, Calif. (May 28, 2019) — Servando Aguilar Lopez, 22, of Madera, was identified as the driver killed in a crash on Highway 152 on Memorial Day, according to the Madera County Sheriff’s Office.
Five others in a separate vehicle were injured in the collision. They were identified as Moua Yang, 31, who was driving the 2016 Honday, and his passengers, Frandis Thou, 25, Xyoob Quinn Chang, 24, Anon Kevin Khaosaat, 26, and Cheng Xiong, 24. All five suffered moderate injuries in the crash.
The crash took place about 1:50 p.m. on Monday afternoon. Lopez was driving a 2017 Honda westbound on Highway 152, heading towards Road 13 prior to the crash. For unknown reasons, Lopez’s vehicle entered the left-hand turn lane and turned south in front of an eastbound 2016 Honda carrying the five Fresno men. The impact caused major damage to the Honda driven by Lopez and both vehicles wound up on the south shoulder of Highway 152. One of the vehicles also became engulfed in flames.
Paramedics rushed to the scene where they tried to save Lopez, but sadly he was pronounced dead. Meanwhile, all five men in the 2016 Honda were transported by ambulances to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno for treatment of moderate injuries.
Police are heading up an investigation into the crash, but drugs and or alcohol were not suspected.
