Police Officer Badly Injured in Shafter Crash at Cherry Avenue and Lerdo Highway
SHAFTER, CA (January 16, 2022) – A Shafter police officer was badly injured after a crash at Cherry Avenue and East Lerdo Highway.
According to an article published by the Kern Golden Empire, the accident took place on Sunday morning. Officials reported the wreck at around 7:30 a.m.
The incident began when a Shafter police officer was outside his patrol car at the intersection of Cherry Avenue and East Lerdo Highway. He was preparing to set flairs in response to an initial collision.
At the same time, another vehicle was going west on Lerdo Highway. In the process, its driver slammed into the rear of the patrol car.
2 Vehicles Collide
Firefighters along with the paramedics soon arrived at the scene. They found the police officer who sustained moderate injuries as a result of the crash.
Medical personnel then took the victim to a hospital for treatment. The report did not disclose the name of the wounded patient and their condition at this time.
Meanwhile, the California Highway Patrol believed foggy conditions and low visibilities played a role in the incident. Officers forced the area of Cherry and Lerdo to shut down following the wreck.
The Shaft crash is still under investigation.
