5-Car Accident in Shandon on Highway 46
SHANDON (April 3, 2017)- According to KSBY.com, a fatal 5-car head-on crash took place Friday afternoon on Highway 46 at around 2:15 p.m. involving a total of five vehicles.
California Highway Patrol officials disclosed that the driver of a big rig representing Firestone Walker Brewing Company had been headed eastbound when he suddenly veered into westbound lanes and clipped a pickup truck which struck two other vehicles. The initial collision caused the big rig driver to continue into westbound lanes a[hit a GMC Sierra head-on driven by a 69-year-old man.
The wreck tragically caused fatal injuries to the 69-year-old man who remains unidentified at this time.
Meanwhile, the Firestone big rig tipped over onto its side spilling liquid mush all over the roadway.
Other injuries were also reported as an unknown number of victims in the three other vehicles were hurt and hospitalized.
California Highway Patrol officials were able to confirm that neither drugs nor alcohol played a role in the wreck as the collision remains under investigation.
Major traffic delays ensued lasting several hours as both westbound and eastbound lanes were blocked off diverting traffic to the shoulder.
