Shefner Larnell Moore Arrested DUI; Gilbert Marquez Killed in Crash
CALIPATRIA, Calif. (June 29, 2021) – Shefner Moore, 54, of Brawley, is facing DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter charges after a deadly crash on Highway 115 in Calipatria.
Gilbert Marquez, 60, of Brawley, died in the crash on Saturday afternoon on Highway 115 with the suspected drunk driver.
Shefner Larnell Moore already had five drunk driving convictions when he allegedly drove through the intersection of Highway 115 and East Albright Road. It was about 4 p.m. when his 2012 Ford Fusion crashed broadside into a Ford F-250 pickup truck driven by Gilbert Marquez, according to the California Highway Patrol and the Calexico Chronicle.
Upon impact, the pickup truck overturned several times before Marquez was ejected. Sadly, the Brawley man suffered major injuries and died at the scene.
Suspected DUI Driver Arrested by Police
Shefner Moore was injured in the crash. He was airlifted to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs.
Meanwhile, police investigating the crash suspect that alcohol was a likely factor in the accident. Subsequently, Police arrested Shefner Moore on suspicion of felony DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter. Also, authorities reported that the suspect had five prior driving-under-the-influence convictions.
