Four Hurt in 6-Vehicle Crash on Highway 101 in Shell Beach
SHELL BEACH, Calif. (Feb. 17, 2019) — Four people were hurt in multiple crashes involving a RTA bus and five other vehicles on Highway 101 on Saturday morning.
The serious of collisions were reported to police at 8 a.m. on Highway 101 near the Shell Beach Road and Wadsworth Avenue off ramps.
One person suffered major injuries and was transported to Sierra Vista Hospital. Three others were treated for minor injuries.
The California Highway Patrol reported the driver in a Subaru changed lanes in an effort to avoid a collision, but instead side-swiped a Honda Pilot and a BMW.
Meanwhile an RTA bus with 13 passengers struck a Honda Fit. The impact caused the Honda Fit to overturn onto the dirt shoulder of the roadway where it may have caught on fire. The bus continued forward and struck the BMW which veered down a dirt embankment. Next, the bus collided with a Chevrolet, pushing it into a guardrail on the west side of the roadway.
Police issued a SigAlert for the collision due to the lanes being blocked and conducted an investigation into liability.
