Woman Killed on Beach in Santa Monica is Identified
SANTA MONICA, Calif. (Oct. 21, 2024) – Authorities identified Sherese Allen, 34, as the woman who was run over by an SUV and killed on the beach near the Santa Monica Pier.
The young woman, believed to be homeless, died from traumatic asphyxia, according to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s officer.
The deadly accident occurred at 11:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 17th, according to the Santa Monica Police Department.
A 21-year-old Arcadia man driving the 2015 Infiniti SUV had been allegedly driving in circles at high speeds on the sand and ran over the victim,” police said in a statement.
Police responded and located the unconscious woman wedged underneath his vehicle. The Santa Monica Fire Department confirmed her death upon arrival.
Police arrested the driver, identified as Yuyang Sun, and booked him on suspicion of driving under the influence, reckless driving, and gross vehicular manslaughter, the report said.
Sun is being held in lieu of $100,000 bail, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
