SHERMAN OAKS: Deadly 3-Vehicle Collision on 101 Freeway
1 Killed, 1 Seriously Injured
SHERMAN OAKS, California (April 10, 2016) – A fatal 3-vehicle collision was reported early Sunday on the 101 Freeway, east of Woodman Avenue, according to Los Angeles Daily News. (map)
The accident took place about 2:40 a.m.
As per the article, California Highway Patrol said a 29-year-old Pacoima man was driving a 2000 Honda Accord north when he weaved in lanes and traveled on the right shoulder. The motorist then went across lanes and slammed into the concrete median, sending him directly into the path of a 2015 Mazda 3.
The Mazda failed to stop and crashed into the Accord. A 2006 Toyota Corolla subsequently rear-ended the Mazda.
The 29-year-old Pacoima resident died at the scene. His name has not been yet released pending notification of family.
Meanwhile, CHP affirmed that the Mazda driver, 28-year-old Encino resident Nastaran Zarinpanjeh, was transported to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center with major injuries. He was then arrested for misdemeanor driving under the influence.
The 25-year-old man driving the Corolla was unharmed. All involved parties were wearing their seat belts at the time.
The incident remains under investigation.
