Sherri Cooley and Megan Cooley Dead Modesto DUI Crash on Tully and Rumble Roads
MODESTO (November 30, 2017) – Two women who died after an alleged DUI crash Wednesday night near Tully and Rumble Roads have been identified as Sherri Cooley and Megan Cooley, according to The Modesto Bee.
Police said Sherri Cooley was 54 years old while Megan Cooley was 21 and both were from Modesto.
As per the article, police affirmed that the victims were riding a 2003 Ford Escape when they were struck by a speeding 2006 Mercedes. The accident involving three vehicles occurred at around 8:30 p.m. near Tully and Rumble roads.
A 16-year-old girl was driving the Mercedes north on Tully Road at a high rate of speed approaching the intersection when she hit the passenger side of the Ford. The Ford, which was making a left eastbound turn onto Rumble Road at the time, then rolled over and landed about 168 feet north of the intersection.
Officials indicated that the passenger of the overturned vehicle, Sherri Cooley, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, Megan Cooley, was taken to a hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries.
Meanwhile, the teen motorist and her two teenage male passengers were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
The 16-year-old was booked into Juvenile Hall for two counts of gross vehicular manslaughter while under the influence after being released from the hospital. The investigation is ongoing.
