Sidney Chang, 15, and Amal Shurbaji, 18, Killed in 5 Freeway Car Accident
KERN COUNTY (June 4, 2018) – Two teenagers were killed in a traffic collision on the Interstate 5 Freeway Sunday afternoon, according to Bakersfield.com.
The fatalities were identified as 15-year-old Sidney Chang, and 17-year-old Amal Shurbaji.
As per the article, a Jeep rolled over on the freeway, south of Grapevine Road, at approximately 5:25 p.m. Authorities said an unidentified 17-year-old teenage girl was driving, and three passengers were inside the Jeep at the time of the accident.
Initial investigation determined that prior to the crash, another vehicle changed lanes directly in front of the Jeep. The driver of the Jeep then took an evasive action, and lost control of the vehicle.

Kern County Wrongful Death Lawyer
A forensic examination of the Jeep and the other vehicle involved, as well as photos that were taken of the scene, will be made to help investigators determine the liability in the accident. Other potential factors will be looked into as well including whether or not a driver was under the influence at the time of the accident, whether or not a motorist was distracted, operating the vehicle recklessly, or traveling over the speed limit prior to impact. Each of these factors plus several others will be assessed allowing police officials to draw up a final conclusion.
Depending on the results of the investigation, the family members of Sidney Chang and Amal Shurbaji may have the right to a wrongful death claim, and the injured parties may file a personal injury lawsuit against the at-fault person.
