 Silver Lake Pedestrian Accident 5 Freeway; Homeland Security VehicleSILVER LAKE, Calif. (August 18, 2021) — A Silver Lake pedestrian accident involving a Homeland Security Vehicle happened Wednesday morning on the Interstate 5 Freeway in Los Angeles.

The pedestrian died following the 2:15 a.m. collision with an unmarked Department of Homeland Security vehicle.

The traffic accident happened on the southbound Golden State (5) Freeway at Hyperion Avenue in Silver Lake, the California Highway Patrol reported.

CHP officers responded to the fatal Silver Lake pedestrian accident and located the injured 40-year-old woman who died at the scene.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff Coroner will release her identity after notifying relatives.

Meanwhile, the driver of the vehicle is a Homeland Security officer. The driver stopped and remained at the scene, according to the CHP. It is unknown at this time if the DHS officer was on duty, police said.

Also, authorities say a second vehicle was involved. However, the report does not mention the type of vehicle, nor to what extent, authorities said.

Investigators ordered several freeway lanes closed while they conducted an investigation into liability for the Silver Lake pedestrian accident.
