2 Teenage Boys Injured in Fresno Head-On Crash Near California and Cornelia Avenues
FRESNO (March 2, 2020) – Two teenage boys were hospitalized after an alleged DUI crash in the area of California and Cornelia avenues on Sunday evening.
According to reports by the ABC 30 and FOX 26 News, the incident began when 56-year-old Sixto Flores Lopez was driving his car eastbound on California Avenue.
The Fresno man then veered into oncoming traffic near Cornelia Avenue and struck a Chevrolet head-on. The accident took place on March 1 at around 6:20 p.m.
Suspected DUI Driver ID’d as Sixto Flores Lopez, 56
California Highway Patrol said the driver of the Chevrolet, 44-year-old Kerman resident Kenda Gutierrez, was unharmed in the wreck.
Her two passengers, boys ages 13 and 17, were injured upon impact.Paramedics responded to the scene and rushed the two teens to Community Regional Medical Center with unspecified injuries.
The names and condition of the young victims at this time were not disclosed. Meanwhile, medical personnel also transported Lopez to the same hospital with major injuries.
Officers determined that he was under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs when the incident happened. Authorities later arrested Lopez for DUI and booked him into the Fresno County jail.
