2 CHP Officers Injured in Solano County DUI Crash on Interstate 80
SOLANO COUNTY, CA (September 11, 2022) – A DUI crash left two California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers injured on the Interstate 80 in Solano County.
According to The Reporter and NBC Bay Area, the accident took place early Sunday. Officers reported the wreck at around 2 a.m.
The incident began when the two CHP officers worked a traffic stop on the westbound Interstate 80 in Solano County. They pulled over another driver and were on the right hand shoulder at the time.
An SUV approached and then drove on the shoulder. The SUV slammed into the patrol car, east of American Canyon Road.
DUI Driver Hits Patrol Car
In the process, the impact pushed the CHP unit into the two officers. Paramedics arrived and found both victims hurt as a result of the collision.
One officer sustained concussion while the second survived the incident with a broken leg. A helicopter flew one of them to a local trauma center and a ground ambulance rushed the other for treatment.
The names of the wounded parties and their condition at this time were not disclosed. Meanwhile, the driver of the SUV complained of pain following the wreck.
Officials determined that the motorist was under the influence and soon arrested them on suspicion of felony DUI. CHP forced the westbound lanes of Interstate 80 to shut down after the accident.
The Solano County DUI crash is still under investigation.
