Fatal Head-on Crash on Bear Mountain Road in Arvin
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (August 29, 2019 ) — Soledad Paniagua, 50, of McFarland, was one of two people who died in a head-on collision Tuesday morning on Highway 223 (Bear Mountain Road).
Juan Aztudillo Lopez, 32, of Arvin, also died in the crash that left three others injured.
The collision took place at 5:30 a.m. on Bear Mountain Boulevard at South Edison Road, just west of Cuda Drive, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Police say that Lopez was driving a Toyota Corolla westbound on Highway 223 when his car suddenly that veered into the eastbound lanes and struck a Chrysler PT Cruiser that Paniagua was riding in as a passenger.
The impact killed both Lopez and Paniagua, but three others who were in the PT Cruiser were badly injured. All three of them were airlifted to a hospital after the collision.
Police are investigating whether or not drugs and or alcohol were factors in the fatal crash.
