Pedestrian Killed in Sacramento Crash ID’d as Sonja Redd
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (February 25, 2021) – Sonja Redd, 55, died Tuesday night in a pedestrian accident on Highway 99 in Sacramento.
According to the Sacramento County Sheriff Coroner, Sonja Elizabeth Redd was struck and killed about 9:10 p.m. on Feb. 23rd.
Police said a Toyota Camry initially struck the woman as she attempted to cross the southbound lanes of Highway 99, according to KCRA 3 News.
Subsequently, four other vehicles struck Sonja Redd, but there were no further details released at this time. She suffered severe injuries and died at the scene. Meanwhile, the 25-year-old Elk Grove resident driving the Toyota immediately stopped. Also, the driver cooperated with the investigation, police said.
Investigators Seek to Find Answers to Cause of Deadly Crash
Additionally, authorities do not know if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the collision that happened near Mack Road. They are piecing together evidence and witness statements in hopes of finding out why Sonja Redd was on the highway and what led up to the collision.
Police closed the roadway temporarily due to the investigation. Detectives will eventually determine the circumstances that led to the pedestrian accident and confirm liability.
Finally, police are urging witnesses to contact them with information that will help them solve liability. The Sacramento coroner identified Sonja Redd as the pedestrian who died and released her name upon notification of her family.
