Man, 39, Killed in Sonora Crash on Highway 108 Near Draper Mine
SONORA, CA (May 15, 2023) – A DUI crash killed a man on Highway 108 near Draper Mine Road in Sonora.
According to the ABC 10 News and My Mother Lode, the tragic accident took place last week on Thursday afternoon. Officers reported the wreck on May 11 at around 5 p.m.
The incident happened when a 2019 Kia Optima and a 2020 Ram 2500 were going west on Highway 108 near Draper Mine Road in Sonora. At the same time, a Ford F-350 was traveling east.
The California Highway Patrol said the Kia then slowed down to make a turn onto a private driveway. In the process, the Ram slammed into the rear of the Optima.
Multiple Cars Collide
The impact pushed the Kia into the path of the Ford. As a result, the F-350 truck collided with the right side of the Optima.
Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived at the scene and found the driver of the Kia hurt. The 39-year-old Angels Camp man sustained life-threatening injuries following the collision.
An air ambulance flew the victim to the Doctors’ Medical Center in Modesto, where he died. His name has not been yet released pending notification of next of kin.
Meanwhile, CHP determined that the woman driving the Ram was under the influence of alcohol and drugs/medications. They soon arrested her for DUI.
Officers forced lanes of Highway 108 to shut down for a time near Draper Mine after the wreck. The cause of the fatal Sonora crash is still under investigation.
