HAYWARD, Calif. (Nov. 1, 2018) — Sophia Alvarenga Pena, 3, of Hayward, was killed Monday afternoon in the 400 block of Shepherd Avenue, according to the Alameda County Coroner.

The young child was struck by a vehicle about 3:55 p.m.

By the time officers arrived, the child was still in the roadway and badly injured. Paramedics rushed her to a hospital, but sadly succumbed to her injuries.

The driver stopped and was cooperating with the police investigation. There were no immediate details about what happened. Witnesses may contact the police department’s traffic bureau at (510) 293-7099.
