Sprinter Van, Car in Crash on 5 Freeway, SR-74 in San Juan Capistrano

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, Calif. (Nov. 3, 2026) — A crash involving a black Mercedes Sprinter van and a tan Lucid sedan occurred Tuesday on the southbound Interstate 5 Freeway, just north of Ortega Highway (SR-74). The incident was reported at approximately 4:22 p.m. on Nov. 3rd in San Juan Capistrano.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) logs indicate that both vehicles were blocking the right lane following the collision. The reporting party moved over to the right-hand side to clear the lane. Emergency services were promptly dispatched, with the first unit arriving at the scene by 4:35 p.m.

The gray Lucid electric vehicle reportedly sustained major front-end damage. Assistance was requested for vehicle removal, and a witness stopped to provide contact information to the party involved in the black Mercedes before continuing on their way. Notably, an infant was reportedly in one of the vehicles, but emergency medical services were declined on the scene.
